英语国际通用语背景下的语用能力思想新探 冉永平 杨青

提要:随着全球化进程的加快,英语已由外语(EFL)转变为通用语(ELF),不同于英语作为外语的交际范式及语用特征相应出现,这引发了对于语用能力思想及其研究的新思考。本文首先从历时角度考察语用能力观的演进和国际通用语背景下的语用能力变化,然后重点分析英语通用语背景下的交叉语用能力及语用能力的复合性特征,意在揭示以英语本族语为参照的语用能力观不适用于多元化的通用语环境,呼吁重新审视新时期背景下的语用能力思想及英语教学理论与实践。

Abstract: With the quick development of globalization, English has become a lingua franca (ELF) rather than merely a foreign language (EFL) for learning and teaching, and different interactional paradigms and pragmatic features have therefore appeared in use, which helps us reconsider pragmatic competence. This paper first surveys the diachronic perspectives on pragmatic competence, summarizes its recent developments, and then discusses the intercultural pragmatic competence and its multidimensional features in ELF settings, with the purpose of disclosing the inadequacy of traditional EFL pragmatic competence and calling for the reconceptualization of ELF pragmatic competence, thus providing insights for English teaching theories and practice.
